Abstract:
Multi Principal Element Alloys (MPEAs) are promising for demanding structural applications. Among their key mechanisms, transformation-induced plasticity (TRIP) is particularly relevant under varying temperatures. This work investigates the temperature-dependent TRIP behavior of a heterogeneous high entropy alloy to precipitate a dual-phase microstructure. Mechanical testing at cryogenic, room, and elevated temperatures revealed no transformation in the as-received state, while heat-treated samples showed distinct TRIP effects at lower temperatures due to martensitic transformation and strain hardening. The results highlight the role of microstructural design and processing in tuning phase stability and mechanical performance, offering insight for designing MPEAs suited to extreme environments.
